If you're interested in your cardiovascular and circulatory health, then you want to know about nitric oxide. Although it's sometimes confused with nitrous oxide – the "laughing gas" anesthetic chemically abbreviated as N2O – nitric oxide, or NO, is nothing to laugh about, although its many benefits will certainly make you smile!
In the body, NO acts as a chemical messenger, transmitting and receiving signals that regulate cellular function. Although virtually unknown to science until 1998, NO is now regarded as one of the most important molecules for human health and well-being. In fact, it is widely believed that the state of your health is largely dependent on your nitric oxide levels, and research suggests that NO may be the key to living a healthier life.
In addition to its role as a messenger and regulator of cellular function, nitric oxide also works by relaxing and enlarging the diameter of your blood vessels, promoting healthy blood flow. When blood vessels are relaxed and properly nourished, they can retain their youthful flexibility and elasticity. As a result, the heart can do its job under much less pressure. The benefits of NO extend far beyond heart and vascular health as a constant supply of oxygen-rich blood and nutrients supports the function of every organ and tissue in the body, including the lungs, liver, stomach, and kidneys.
So how can you increase your body's supply of nitric oxide? One way is by adopting a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and exercise and by avoiding tobacco use. There are also numerous dietary supplements that claim to increase nitric oxide, especially those that are marketed to people interested in cardiovascular and sexual health. These supplements are invariably based on the amino acid arginine. Although arginine is indeed a raw material in the body's production of NO, oral supplementation of the amino acid or derivatives has not been shown in controlled studies to increase blood levels of nitric oxide, according to noted expert Richard J. Bloomer, Ph.D. of the University of Memphis.
Fortunately, there is a natural way to increase nitric oxide through supplementation, and that is by daily consumption of jiaogulan, the key ingredient in FreeLife's Jule of the Orient™. In an important Vanderbilt University study that was reported in the medical journal Nitric Oxide, jiaogulan's bioactive gypenoside saponins were shown in the laboratory to directly stimulate nitric oxide release in artery walls. The mechanism involves activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), the body enzyme that controls nitric oxide levels in the arteries. Although nitric oxide works wonders when released inside blood vessels, it can be harmful if released outside of them, so it is very good to know that gypenosides were shown in an Australian university study to be a powerful suppressor of iNOS, the enzyme that releases the bad form of NO.
When nitric oxide is released in blood vessels, there is a measurable improvement in circulation, especially microcirculation in the capillaries that feed individual body cells. Using advanced Doppler laser techniques, FreeLife Scientific Advisory Board member Dr. Jialiu Liu, MD has shown that, within 30 to 50 minutes after consuming jiaogulan, microcirculation increases significantly. Developed by Dr. Liu and FreeLife's award-winning Scientific Team, Jule of the Orient is the premier jiaogulan tonic, so if you're looking to optimize your nitric oxide levels, just say NO. . .by saying YES to Jule!
