Thermogenesis refers to the body’s ability to produce heat from stored fat calories by increasing the metabolic rate. This fat burning is called lipolysis, and takes place mostly in unique pockets of brown adipose tissue (BAT) located throughout the body.
Other than in hibernating animals, BAT thermogenesis is not a prime energy source for the body.
